About Bol

Bol is the most famous and oldest town on the third largest island in Croatia – Brač. It is situated in the south of the island and above it are Bolska kruna and Vidova Gora – the highest peak not only of Brač, but also of all Adriatic islands.

Bol is known for its beautiful beaches – the most recognizable and famous beach is Zlatni Rat. According to many, it is the most beautiful beach both in Dalmatia and in the whole of Croatia. Zlatni Rat is located in the western part of Bol. The beach itself extends over 500m into the sea and its top changes its shape depending on the wind and waves. Zlatni Rat in the central part is covered with trees, thanks to which there is always a calm sea on one side, and on the other side there is wind and waves, which children and teenagers appreciate the most.

The port around which Bol was shaped is located in the center. There are many restaurants, cafes, a post office, a pharmacy, an infirmary, a church, two grocery stores, a small vegetable market and most of the other necessary shops. You can also take a water taxi from the center to the Zlatni Rat beach.

In the eastern part of the town of Bol there is a Dominican monastery. The museum located there has a rich archaeological collection as well as valuable items and paintings related to the history of the island and the region on permanent display.

Bol has been a town of fishermen for centuries. At the beginning of the 20th century, tourism and the sector of related services began to develop, which to this day evolve to meet the requirements and expectations of tourists. Thus, we currently have in Bol: windsurfing, kitesurfing, diving schools, tennis schools, various sports courts, a fitness center, restaurants, cafes and many other services.

The efforts of Bol’s authorities and residents have been appreciated by tourists and the state authorities. A small town in the south of the island, which has little more than 1,500 permanent inhabitants, has been awarded the title of the Tourist Master of Croatia almost continuously since 2009. It is an award that the Ministry of Tourism, together with the state authorities, awards companies, resorts or private persons for the outstanding quality of their services.

In addition to the title of Croatian Tourist Champion, Bol has also received several other awards:

– the Flower of Tourism award – for the best tourist town in the category from 5,000 to 10,000 places in accommodation,

Blue Flower and Sunny Flower awards – for the best-decorated and prepared for tourism town, respectively 3rd place in “coastal Croatia” and 1st place in the Split-Dalmatia Province

– on the Zlatni Rat beach, the blue flag has been flying for several years, proving the highest purity of sea water.
